Foundations / Beginner 1 (B1)

New students are taught the basics of Pilates in this class.  We will cover equipment, terminology, basic Pilates principles and foundational exercises while moving in this class.  You don’t have to be new to drop into this class; it can also be used as a refresher course.  Deep River Pilates asks that new students participate in 2 to 3 sessions of this class before progressing into the Beginner  2 classes.

Beginner 2 (B2)

New or newly returning students can focus on the fundamentals of Pilates while increasing their strength and balance and preparing to transition to Intermediate level work.  Beginner level classes proceed at a moderate pace.

Intermediate 1 (I1)

Students continue to build strength and balance capability at an increased class pace.  Some of the support functionality of the equipment is changed or removed thereby working stabilization and core function more.  Greater body awareness is emphasized by an increase in teaching the principles behind the movements.  Students are introduced to progressions, allowing them to choose their level of challenge within an exercise group.

Intermediate 2 (I2)

This is where we use strength, balance and core stability built in prior levels for greater challenges.  This level introduces the student to an increased variety of exercises.  Understanding how the Pilates principles work together begins and fluidity of movement starts to emerge.  Each student has a confident understanding of how to work with the equipment and how to follow the queueing of the instructor well.

Advanced 1 (A1)

Continue to build strength, balance and core stability as more elaborate exercises are learned and practiced.  The pace of an Advanced class is brisk as all students know the equipment and can transition from one exercise to the next using transitions.

Types of Classes

Our class types revolve around the equipment.  We are proud to feature Balanced Body equipment.

Allego Stretch

Our reformer is the Allego Stretch which offers a longer, slightly wider carriage on a metal frame.  The Allegro Stretch is especially effective when used with the Jumpboard, giving the student move room to travel.  We added the Tower of Power to our reformers which include arm springs, leg springs, a roll down bar and a push through bar.

Combo Chair

We chose the Combo Chair as it offers removable handles, a split pedal and a 4-spring system.  The Combo Chair is taller than some other chairs and it is heavier, which makes it more stable.

Pilates Arc

The Pilates Arc is a versatile and fun piece of equipment that offers a wide variety of functionality both by itself and when combined with the reformer and the tower.
